This noble family, originally from Mugello and historically connected to Montegiovi, Campestri and Ghiareto, has distinguished medieval roots recorded even in the historic Florentine codex Il Bullettone. Over the centuries, the Michelozzi stood out for their control of castles, important fiefs and strategic landholdings in the orbit of the Florentine Archdiocesan Curia.
Welcoming travellers into this room connects them directly to the Florentine Renaissance, the golden age when the family lived on and managed the estate. This ancient, illustrious Lombard house, originally from evocative Valmalenco, bound its destiny irrevocably to Tuscany when it was admitted to the noble patrician citizenship of Livorno in 1836. Versatile and generous spirits, the Malenchini distinguished themselves both in trade with their forefather Pietro da Sondrio and in the courts of justice and the great epics of the Italian Risorgimento.
It is impossible not to recall Doctor Vincenzo, an ardent follower of Garibaldi in the decisive battles of Custoza and Solferino and a protagonist of the legendary Expedition of the Thousand. For his great patriotic merits, he was appointed senator of the Kingdom and marquis by His Majesty Vittorio Emanuele II. The family's profound link to this estate was consolidated in 1860, when lawyer Giovanni Malenchini became the proud owner of Villa Camporella. Antevorta and Postvorta
Room 402 is dedicated to Antevorta and Postvorta, ancient Roman divinities associated with the mysteries of time, memory and fate. As part of the Camenae, prophetic nymphs of water, song and inspiration, they embody complementary forces: looking ahead and looking back. Antevorta, also known as Porrima, was believed to see what had yet to happen.
Her name evokes forward movement, anticipation and the ability to sense a path before it unfolds. She was invoked as a favourable presence at moments of transition, when a person stands before a choice, a beginning or a threshold. Postvorta, in contrast, guarded what had already passed.
